Product Overview

The Sonos Sub 4 is a wireless subwoofer built to add deep, powerful bass to a compatible Sonos soundbar or speaker. It’s the fourth generation of Sonos’ flagship subwoofer, carrying over the same iconic sculptural shape as its predecessor while adding a refreshed matte finish, a faster processor, more memory, and a new Wi-Fi 6 radio for more reliable performance in busy wireless environments.

Two Sonos-engineered elliptical woofers face inward within the enclosure, creating a force-canceling effect that virtually eliminates the buzz, rattle, and distortion that can affect other subwoofer designs. Unlike the smaller, sealed-cabinet Sub Mini, the Sub 4 uses a ported enclosure, a design choice that enhances bass response and low-frequency output, delivering more physical impact for movies, games, and music. Once paired, audio settings automatically balance the Sub 4’s output against the connected speaker or soundbar, and Trueplay tuning further measures the room’s acoustics to fine-tune the overall sound.

The Sub 4 connects to a Sonos system over Wi-Fi, so it can be placed wherever it looks and sounds best in a room — stood upright, laid flat on its side, or tucked under furniture — rather than needing a fixed position near the paired speaker. For installations that benefit from a wired connection, a 10/100 Ethernet port is also available for hardwiring to a router. For maximum home theater impact, two Sub 4 units can be paired together with an Arc Ultra or Arc soundbar.

Important: the Sub 4 is a companion subwoofer, not a standalone speaker. It cannot play audio on its own and must be wirelessly paired with a compatible Sonos soundbar or speaker (sold separately) to function. It’s compatible with the Arc Ultra, Arc, and Beam soundbars for home theater use, and with the Five, Era 300, and Era 100 speakers for music listening — but is not compatible with the older Playbar or Playbase soundbars, the Sonos S1 Controller app, or portable/legacy products such as Move, Roam, Port, Connect, or Connect:Amp (Gen 1).
