Product Overview
The Yamaha MG16XU is a 16-channel analog mixing console built for live sound, recording, and installation use, offering 10 microphone inputs and up to 16 line inputs (8 mono plus 4 stereo) on a single compact chassis. It’s a natural fit for solo artists, small bands, corporate AV setups, and project studios that need flexible input handling without stepping up to a digital console.
Each channel runs through Yamaha’s “D-PRE” Class-A microphone preamps, based on an inverted Darlington circuit design that keeps noise and distortion low across a wide frequency range, so sources go into the mix clean without needing heavy EQ correction afterward. Channels 1-8 add a one-knob compressor and a 26dB pad switch for handling hot signals, while all mic channels include switchable +48V phantom power and a high-pass filter alongside 3-band EQ. Onboard SPX digital effects provide 24 reverb, modulation, and specialty presets, controllable via a dedicated send and return, with an option to mute the effect return using an external footswitch.
Beyond the analog signal path, the MG16XU doubles as a 24-bit/192kHz, 2-in/2-out USB audio interface, letting it connect directly to a computer or iPad (with an appropriate adapter) for recording or virtual soundcheck use, and it ships with a downloadable copy of Cubase AI for a complete recording starting point. The mixing bus structure includes 4 group buses, a stereo bus, and 4 aux sends (including the onboard FX send), giving enough routing flexibility for monitor mixes or submixing without external gear. A rugged, powder-coated metal chassis, rack-mount capability, and a universal internal power supply round it out for dependable use on the road or in a fixed installation.
